When the store attendant opened the door, she non-eloquently stated, “by the way the store opens at 8:00.” I retorted, I could walk around or just wait. Her next comment torqued me. She spouts off about me staring inside the store and creeping her. What?
Before you ask, I was nicely dressed, standing upright, thinking about the day, basically minding my own business. On several occasions I looked inside Family Dollar. I did not gawk or overtly stare. Everybody knows I’m observant!!
In no uncertain terms, I assured the store rep that I wasn’t creeping, but waiting. I kept calm, but had to sternly project that her language was highly inappropriate, demeaning and very incorrect. She got the hint. I paid for my package, picked it up, said thank you and left!
Pardon this stereotype. I find girls and women aimlessly blurt out terms like: “creepin’ me out” “stalking” and a few other choice phrases regarding their target(s) without realizing or caring about the erroneous labels they’re pinning on, mostly boys and men.
Rather than take my wrath out on all women or all Family Dollar stores, I am imposing a self-moratorium, through Memorial day weekend, only on the downtown New Bedford Family Dollar. I shall speak with my wallet by refusing to shopping there. It’ll keep me from creepin’ one cashier out.
Are there creepy males out here? Sure! The percentage is very low. Put in school grade terminology, the percent of non-creeps is a B-B+ average.
Bottom line: with free speech comes responsibility!
