Thirty-two days is an extended detox. Normally, the term is 25 days. The extra days are a courtesy of the five donuts consumed over the past couple of Saturdays. Those were the only donuts of 2022, but couple Honey Dew with iced lemon sorbet, vegan ice cream, Ruffles, Triscuit and all the other between meal snacks, I’ve done a better job on me than a taxidermist.
Bye bye to chicken salad or turkey sandwiches with turkey bacon. There goes the fried rice from the Chinese restaurant. Chicken wings from wherever. Sayonara shrimp swimming in drawn butter or to diving my spoon into a bowl of thick clam chowder. No process or unprocessed meats for more than a month. Keep the bread away. Pasta is on the shelf. Gotta stop eating another starch—potato. Those are just some of the foods that added 50 pounds to my frame after I lost about 45.
My detox is a tight regimen of fruits, veggies, water with a splash of lemon or lime and unsalted, unbuttered, air-popped popcorn. Two of my main staples are fruit smoothies and carrot-celery juice, fresh from the juicer. That’s all I can/will eat and drink!
A nice salad for tonight. Like most things the detox has an acclimation period. I’ll be used to it by the weekend. The last week in detox can be edgy. By Memorial Day weekend, I will unclean myself with real food.
So, this is day one of my second detox for this calendar year. I will commence detoxifying my kidneys during day two.
